Monthly Archives: November 2011East Coast Architecture – Autumn 2011Stephen Schmidt | November 27, 2011 | Architecture, Design, Landscape design The East Coast is blessed with a rich legacy of architecture, combined with natural beauty, especially in autumn. It’s these visual qualities that enticed me and my wife to recently spend ten days driving around the northeast. We were told by some locals that the fall colors this year were not vibrant. Coming from California, it sure looked beautiful to us. Rather than elaborate through words, I’d like to invite you to view this photo essay of our trip, which included stunning architectural highlights, such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece, Fallingwater, and the impressive new Martin Luther King Memorial in D.C. ![]() Downtown Boston ![]() New State House, Boston ![]() Ray and Maria State Center, MIT, Cambridge, MA, 2004. NYC Report: The High Line, Part IIStephen Schmidt | November 8, 2011 | Architecture, Design, Landscape design, Urban planning
The High Line park in NYC was expanded this year to include a new section that spans the distance between W 20th and W 30th streets. Section 2 of the High Line is characterized by the familiar, sophisticated landscape design scheme that was established with Section 1, which I wrote about in my post NYC Report: The High Line. Please enjoy my recent photos of the new portion of the High Line, plus views of NYC taken from vantage points along the entire High Line park. For additional info, visit the official High Line website: www.thehighline.org.
