Monthly Archives: January 2011Florida Modern Book Signing at Trina TurkStephen Schmidt | January 15, 2011 | Architecture, Design, Graphic design, Publishing ![]() Jan Hochstim and Stephen Schmidt at Trina Turk Palm Springs Boutique On Saturday, January 8th Trina Turk Palm Springs Boutique hosted a Florida Modern book signing and informal Q+A with author Jan Hochstim and book designer Stephen Schmidt. The event offered a great opportunity for the Palm Springs community to explore the parallels of Florida and California mid-century modern residential design.
Florida Modern (Rizzoli) documents outstanding mid-century modern residential architecture projects throughout Florida. Featured are works by the “Sarasota School” of architects, among many others, including Paul Rudolph, Mark Hampton, Rufus Nims, Gene Leedy, William Morgan, Tim Seibert and Alfred Browning Parker. Many thanks to Trina Turk, and her staff, for hosting the event in style. Special thanks to Robert Imber of Palm Springs Modern Tours for his help in organizing the book signing, and for arranging tours of modern homes in Palm Springs during our visit. It was a pleasure taking part in the book signing, which occured in the midst of a week long California/Nevada architecture tour undertaken by Jan Hochstim and myself. Photo highlights of our visit around the SF Bay Area, Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Los Angeles can be found below. Thanks also to David Shearer, Director of OBJCT Gallery, for the tour of Claremont modernism. ![]() Eichler house, Walnut Creek.
